Jennifer Hudson is learning from the best!
The EGOT winner teamed up with Ryan Lochte for an expert swim lesson on a recent episode of her daytime talk series, The Jennifer Hudson Show. At 42, Hudson confessed to Lochte, 39, that this lesson was long overdue as they convened at a hotel pool for her session.
“This past summer I was surrounded by water, and there was nothing I could do,” Hudson admitted. “I don’t think it’s ever too late to learn.”
Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, reassured her, “No, it’s never too late. My love and passion for the water, it’s like my happy place.”
“See, I want my happy place in the water,” Hudson responded, determined to conquer her fears.
Before diving in, Hudson, dressed in a pink robe, showcased her serious approach by revealing a sleek black wetsuit underneath. Lochte matched her enthusiasm by showing off his American-flag-print fitted swim trunks.
Lochte began the lesson by emphasizing the importance of feeling comfortable in the water. “First things first: I want you to start falling in love with the water. Get comfortable with it,” he instructed as Hudson started with blowing bubbles and kicking her legs in the pool.
During the lesson, Lochte shared his passion for teaching swimming, stating, “It doesn’t matter what age you are — anyone can learn how to swim.”
Equipped with goggles, Hudson was tasked with swimming the width of the pool. After successfully completing the width, she joked, “I’m going to the Olympics!”
Encouraged by her progress, Lochte then challenged her to swim the length of the pool. Despite a couple of unsuccessful attempts, Hudson’s perseverance paid off as she made it to the other end without stopping, celebrating with a triumphant air punch.
“You overcame your fear; you wanted to give up, but you kept pushing. That is a perfect lesson that you can use even in life,” Lochte praised her, adding, “You just kick ass!”
As Hudson swam back, she was cheered on by Lochte and her best friend Walter Williams, who acted as a lifeguard during the lesson.
“Jennifer Hudson is officially a swimmer!” Lochte declared. “Watch out, guys — 2028 Olympics! Jennifer, here she comes!”
With determination and guidance from one of the best, Hudson has not only learned to swim but also embraced a new source of joy and confidence.
