Jennifer Hudson gives update on romance with Common: ‘Everything is wonderful’

Jennifer Hudson isn’t one for kissing and telling, but one thing is clear — she is on cloud nine with her boyfriend, Common.

Hudson gushed about her rapper beau during an interview with People magazine at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards. While the “American Idol” alum kept the specifics of their relationship under wraps, her joy was palpable. “Everything is wonderful,” Hudson told the outlet. “That’s all you need to know.”

Hudson’s comments follow Common’s appearance on the singer’s talk show, “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” earlier this year. The episode drew significant attention as dating rumors about the pair swirled. During the interview, Hudson and Common playfully discussed their love lives without explicitly naming each other.

In January, Common appeared as a guest on Hudson’s show, where he brought flowers and discussed his love life. Hudson, known for her candidness, couldn’t resist probing her guest. “Let’s get down to business, Mr. Common,” she said playfully. “I’m a host, and so I have to ask you this question because everybody always wants to know this. Are you dating anyone?”

The crowd cheered as the Grammy-winning rapper laughed nervously. “So, yes,” he said. “And I’m in a relationship that is (with) one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in life.” Common’s affectionate words hinted strongly at Hudson, particularly when he elaborated on the attributes of his significant other. “She’s smart. She loves God. She has something real down to earth about her. She’s talented. But I set my standard kind of high because she had to have an EGOT. She had to win an Oscar on her first movie. I set my standard high. She had to get her own talk show.”

Common then turned the tables, asking Hudson about her own romantic life. She confirmed she was “dating as well” and was “very happy.”

Later, on the “Today” show, Common reflected on the interview, describing it as “a little fun.” He emphasized the importance of honesty and authenticity, saying, “I felt like, man, why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are?” Despite his typically private nature regarding personal relationships, he admitted, “at the end of the day, we were on her show. We had a good time.”

The rapper also revealed that he sees himself as “the marrying type” and is open to the idea of marriage “at some point in my life.”
