At 79, legendary rock star Rod Stewart is embracing fatherhood like never before. With a twinkle in his eye and a heart full of gratitude, Rod reveals the secret to his newfound joy: his supportive wife, Penny Lancaster. Married in 2007, Penny has been a transformative presence in Rod’s life, especially when it comes to his eight children from various relationships.

“She literally did bring us [the family] all together,” Rod shared during an appearance on Lorraine. Reflecting on the initial skepticism his children had towards Penny, he admits, “For some of the kids when she first came into my life, they obviously thought, ‘oh money grabber’ or whatever and protecting their dad which is quite normal, but she’s won them over entirely now. Really, really, she really has, she’s a great girl.”

Rod’s genuine affection for Penny is evident as he repeats, “She’s won them over entirely now. She really has, she’s a great girl.”

Fatherhood, for Rod, has become a cherished experience in his later years. “I’ve got eight children and I think I am appreciating it more now in old age than I ever did before. I really cherish those moments,” he said. The daily antics of his younger children keep him on his toes, with their creative excuses to stay up late, “They don’t want to go to bed, any excuse to stay up, ‘Oh dad I think the house is on fire’… Anything to get your attention.”

When asked about the possibility of expanding his brood, Rod was unequivocal: “No, no, no, no.” He takes immense pride in the diverse talents and careers his children are pursuing, “I’ve got a hockey player, I’ve got a musician, I’ve got a ballet dancer, a jazz dancer – they are all pursuing wonderful careers in the arts. Extremely proud of them.”

Rod and Penny, who share two sons, Alastair  and Aiden, began their relationship in 1999 and solidified their bond with a wedding in the picturesque seaside village of Portofino, Italy, in June 2007. Looking ahead, the couple plans to return to Portofino next year to renew their vows on their tenth anniversary. “We’re going to invite the same friends and do it all over again,” Rod mentioned previously on Loose Women.

Among the expected guests is Ronnie Wood, Rod’s close friend, who is preparing to welcome twin girls with his wife, Sally Humphreys. Rod humorously commented on Ronnie’s impending fatherhood, “He doesn’t know what’s going to happen to him. I laugh every time I think of it. I must admit it was me and Penny that was pushing for them to have children. I’m sure Sally wanted them but she just needed a spokesman and she got it in me.”

With his infectious charm and unwavering love for his family, Rod Stewart continues to show that life only gets better with age, especially when surrounded by the love and support of family.
