Jennifer Hudson gushes about ‘wonderful’ romance with Common: ‘Everything Is Wonderful’

Things are going exceptionally well between Jennifer Hudson and Common.

At the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7, Jennifer Hudson, the host of The Jennifer Hudson Show, shared a delightful update with PEOPLE regarding her relationship with Common, two years after rumors of their romance began to circulate.

“Everything is wonderful,” Hudson, 42, said with a smile when asked about their relationship. “That’s all you need to know.”

The romance rumors were seemingly confirmed in January when Common, 52, made an appearance on Hudson’s talk show. During the episode, the musician behind “The Light” presented Hudson with a bouquet of flowers and opened up about his love life.

“I’m in a relationship… with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life,” he shared, his eyes sparkling, though he didn’t name his significant other directly. “She’s smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her, she’s talented.”

Common also joked about his desire for his partner to be an EGOT winner — a title Hudson has already achieved. He then turned the question back to the Dreamgirls star, who revealed she was “very happy” in her relationship and asked him if he was happy in his.

“This relationship is a happy place for me,” Common replied sincerely. “Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy. So, I’m very grateful. I thank God each and every day, and I’m just letting God guide this relationship.”

Following his heartfelt appearance on Hudson’s show, Common discussed going public with their relationship during an interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna.

“We had a little fun,” Common recounted. “I felt like, why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are. And it felt good, it was fun, we had a good time.”

Despite his general preference for privacy regarding his personal life and “things that are sacred,” Common said they “had a good time” during the show, embracing the opportunity to share a piece of their happiness with the world.

The pair first sparked romance rumors in 2022 when they were spotted together in their hometown of Chicago after filming their 2024 film, Breathe. Since then, they have been seen out holding hands in New York City, enjoying a date night at MJ: The Musical in Chicago, and sitting courtside at Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers games in January.
