Captain America: Brave New World‘s casting confirmed it will have at least one link to Thunderbolts, per reports. Jumping in as “Thunderbolt” Ross / Red Hulk, Harrison Ford’s MCU debut parallels the career runs of colleague thespians.
The MCU now boasts a massive ensemble of multiverse characters, played by a widely diverse cast. The franchise also has a long list of award-winning actors, including Robert Redford, Tommy Lee Jones, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Russell Crow, and that’s just a few. Iron Man is also considered the film that relaunched Robert Downey Jr.’s career, and now he’s returning to kickstart a new era of the MCU. Harrison Ford alluded to this in an episode of The Official Marvel Podcast, where he revealed his reason for joining Captain America: Brave New World. Reiterating a prior statement, he said he saw his colleagues having a good time in the franchise and wanted to see what it’s all about.

“I had watched other actors, brilliant actors, have a wonderful time,” he said. “I am not a brilliant actor, but I thought I might have a good time.” Ford made the same comment in 2023 when asked about his decision to jump into the MCU; he said he plays offbeat roles on occasion to keep things interesting. “I like occasionally to play a character that’s very unlike me, and sometimes it’s less commercially successful than films where people are coming because they know the product and what I’m likely to do in it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. That seemed a fitting description of his turn in the MCU, which finally debuts one of The Hulk’s best arch-villains.
