As the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones unfolds, fans have been captivated by the complex relationships between their favorite characters. However, for Kit Harington, who plays the iconic Jon Snow, one particular on-screen relationship brought an unexpected challenge—kissing his best friend Emilia Clarke, who portrays Daenerys Targaryen.

In a candid interview with the Daily Mirror, Harington revealed that locking lips with Clarke during a pivotal moment in the seventh season felt “weird” due to their close friendship. “Emilia and I had been best friends over a seven-year period, and by the time we had to kiss, it seemed really odd,” Harington admitted. The awkwardness was compounded by the fact that Emilia is also close friends with Kit’s wife, Rose Leslie, who famously played Jon Snow’s first love, Ygritte, in the series.

Harington, 32, elaborated on the unusual dynamic, saying, “Even though you’re actors and it’s your job, there’s an element of weirdness when the three of us are having dinner, and we had a kissing scene that day.” Despite the strangeness of the situation, Harington light-heartedly added that kissing Clarke “isn’t hard” because both she and her character are “wonderful.”

This wasn’t Harington’s first romantic encounter on the set of Game of Thrones. He met his now-wife, Rose Leslie, during the early seasons of the show when she played his on-screen lover. The couple’s relationship blossomed off-screen, leading to their marriage in 2018. Despite their romance being closely tied to the show, Harington insists that their relationship won’t be “defined” by it. “That’s just a job we met on. And I think once … this show finishes, we get to kind of break free of it, a bit, and just be us, which is a really nice feeling,” he shared.

Looking beyond the fantasy realm of Westeros, Harington has expressed hopes of starting a family with Leslie. He recently stated that fatherhood would be the “most important job” he’ll ever take on, even more significant than his role in Game of Thrones. As fans bid farewell to Jon Snow and the epic series that has defined a generation, it’s clear that for Kit Harington, the best is yet to come.
