Dakota Johnson’s brief stint on the US version of The Office was apparently the “worst time” of her life. The 34-year-old actress appeared on a recent episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she took a trip down memory lane with the host, revealing some surprising details about her experience on the beloved sitcom.
During the chat, Dakota admitted that her small role in the 2013 finale was almost not worth it, and that her experience was not what she expected. The Madame Web star first revealed that she loved the show “so much,” and when she was approached to join, it was an obvious ‘yes.’
However, according to Dakota, it ended up being “the worst time of my life” for a number of reasons. One, despite her role only being a minor one, she was required on set for way longer than needed. While she initially thought she’d only need to “show up, for like, half a day,” The Office ended up being a much bigger commitment than she’d anticipated.
“I was there for two weeks, and I’m barely in the f**king show,” she recalled.
Meanwhile, Dakota also shed light on the uncomfortable environment on set, due to some of the longer-running cast members not getting along at the time.
“They were sad,” she confessed, before adding: “And also, like, there were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years.” Dakota then explained that “some people didn’t speak to each other,” which made it awkward for her as a newcomer. She said: “I’m coming in like, ‘Hahaha, I’m so excited to be here,’ and no one wanted to talk to me, nobody gave a f**k.
“And I was like in the background of all of these scenes, faxing things,” she finished.
For fans of The Office, Dakota’s revelations might come as a shock, as the show is often remembered fondly for its quirky humor and tight-knit cast. However, her candid account sheds light on the less glamorous side of television production and the personal dynamics that can affect even the most successful shows.
Despite the negative experience, Dakota Johnson has continued to build a successful career in Hollywood, with notable roles in films like Fifty Shades of Grey and Suspiria. Her honesty about her time on The Office serves as a reminder that not every opportunity in the entertainment industry is as it seems, and that even small roles can come with unexpected challenges.
