Jennifer Lawrence, the acclaimed actress known for her vibrant personality and numerous accolades, recently had a good laugh about her infamous Oscars falls during a light-hearted exchange at the 2024 Academy Awards. Lawrence, who won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, took a memorable tumble on the stairs as she made her way to accept the award. The following year, she fell once again, this time on the red carpet.

During Sunday’s awards ceremony, Oscars Ambassador Amelia Dimoldenberg, renowned for her Chicken Shop Date web series, humorously inquired if Lawrence, 33, had any advice for future winners on how to avoid falling up the stairs.

“Well, yeah, just don’t do that,” Lawrence quipped. “You know, I fell the next year too. So then it just looked like I 100% faked it. Oh, it was awful.”

Reflecting on her 2014 mishap, Lawrence recounted, “I fell on a cone.” Dimoldenberg, playing along, asked, “An ice cream cone?” to which Lawrence replied, “I wish. No, an orange cone.”

Despite her falls, Lawrence has been a frequent and beloved presence at the Oscars, earning four nominations throughout her career. This year, she returned to the ceremony to present the Best Actress award to her friend Emma Stone, alongside fellow past winners Charlize Theron, Michelle Yeoh, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange.

“I’m really excited,” she told Dimoldenberg. “I realized yesterday when I came to rehearsal, I haven’t been here since I was 25.”

Lawrence’s quick wit shone through back in 2013, when she joked about her fall during her acceptance speech, following a standing ovation. “Thank you. You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell and that’s really embarrassing, but thank you. This is nuts,” she began her speech.

In a 2020 interview on the Absolutely Not podcast, Lawrence recalled her nerves and superstition leading up to her Oscar win. “I was very nervous and also very superstitious. I didn’t want to acknowledge the possibility that I would win. I didn’t want to write down a speech,” she said. “I had everything in my head. I was very, very nervous but I was ready. All of the adrenaline clears out and they call my name and I’m elated and I’m in shock. And then I fell, and it erased everything from my mind. My full brain went blank.”

Though she now looks back on her falls with humor, Lawrence admitted it was a sensitive topic for a long time. “I can look back at it now fondly, but for a very long time the fall thing was very sensitive.”

As Jennifer Lawrence continues to charm audiences with her talent and candidness, her ability to laugh at her past stumbles only adds to her enduring appeal.
