At the Los Angeles premiere of Young Woman and the Sea, renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed the dedication Brad Pitt has shown for his role in an upcoming Formula 1 racing movie. Speaking to PEOPLE at the El Capitan Theater, the 80-year-old producer shared insights into Pitt’s preparation for the film.

“He trained for four or five months. He’s an amazing driver,” Bruckheimer said of the 60-year-old star. “In fact, some of the F1 drivers said he’s a natural athlete. He really is. He’s amazing in that car.”

While Bruckheimer remained tight-lipped about the exact speeds Pitt achieved, he humorously hinted at the secrecy involved. “I can’t tell you. The insurance company will kill me,” he joked.

The movie features Pitt as an aging F1 driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a rising star. The cast also includes Javier Bardem, 55, and Damson Idris, 32.

In July 2023, fans got a sneak peek of Pitt in action, donning a racing suit and mingling with real F1 drivers during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in Northamptonshire, U.K. Pitt expressed his excitement to Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle after driving a modified Formula 2 car.

“I’ve got to say it’s just great to be here,” Pitt shared enthusiastically. “We’re just having such a laugh, such a laugh, time of my life.”

Discussing the film’s premise, Pitt detailed his character’s backstory. “I would be a guy who raced in the 90s. He has a horrible crash and kind of craps out and disappears and then is racing in other disciplines,” he explained. “Then his friend, played by Javier Bardem, is the team owner. They’re the last place team, they’re 21, 22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point and they have a young phenom played by Damson Idris. He brings me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue.”

Pitt also teased the groundbreaking cinematography fans can expect. “Tell you what’s amazing about it, you’ll see the cameras come out all over the car, the shots you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen G forces like this, it’s really, really exciting.”

As the excitement builds for this highly anticipated film, it’s clear that Pitt’s commitment and the film’s innovative approach promise a thrilling cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
