Reginae Carter, the 25-year-old daughter of iconic rapper Lil Wayne and TV personality Toya Johnson, recently shared insights into her father’s impactful parenting style, emphasizing the importance of resilience in the entertainment industry.

Carter, an actress and reality star, hosted NYX Professional Makeup’s Mon-Stars Halloween bash in Los Angeles . In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, she revealed how her father’s guidance has been instrumental in shaping her career and personal fortitude.

“My dad taught me a lot about just being in the industry, period,” Carter said. “With him being in this industry since he was 12 years old, he taught me just to keep a thick skin, always be true to myself, never let no one tell me what I can and cannot do.”

The advice from Lil Wayne, who started his career as a pre-teen and has since become a household name in hip-hop, has clearly resonated with Carter. She added, “If you put your mind to it, and if you have the back for it, if you’re going to back up whatever you put out in front, you’re good.”

Having faced industry scrutiny since she was just five years old, Carter, who has appeared on “Social Society” and starred in the limited series “Terror Lake Drive,” has had her fair share of challenges. Despite the backlash, she remains unfazed, crediting her early experiences with building her confidence and resilience.

“I definitely have this tough skin because of all that I’ve been through in this industry, with all the lies, with all the things that I have to hear about my parents,” she shared. “And just even my aunts and stuff, this industry I grew up with a lot of people that they talk about and they have these headlines about.”

Carter’s journey has not only been about overcoming personal challenges but also about maintaining a strong sense of self amid public scrutiny. The “Boxed In” star highlighted how her family deals with negativity, staying grounded and true to their identities.

“We just know who we are,” Carter concluded, reflecting a sentiment of familial unity and strength.

Reginae Carter’s reflections offer a glimpse into the life lessons imparted by Lil Wayne, demonstrating the power of resilience and authenticity in the face of adversity. As she continues to carve her own path in the entertainment industry, her father’s teachings remain a cornerstone of her journey.
