Priscilla Presley recently opened up about the deep connection she still feels to her late ex-husband, Elvis Presley, and why she never remarried after their divorce. During a Q&A event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas, the actress and businesswoman seemingly confirmed a long-standing rumor that she had made a vow to never marry again as long as Elvis was alive.

“I just don’t think that he could handle that,” Priscilla said, reflecting on their relationship. The couple, who were married from 1967 to 1973, shared a tumultuous but passionate bond. Elvis’ iconic status and charismatic presence left an indelible mark on Priscilla, making it difficult for her to envision anyone else in his place, even after his passing.

Despite their divorce, Priscilla kept her promise and has remained unmarried for over four decades. “To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire,” she revealed. “No one could ever match him.”

The Impact of Elvis’ Career on Their Family

During the event, Priscilla also touched on her and Elvis’ decision to not have more children after welcoming their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968. She explained that Elvis felt conflicted about his demanding career and the impact it had on his role as a father. “Elvis felt he had a very busy schedule and he did have a bit of guilt that he wasn’t around that much when Lisa was younger,” she told the audience.

The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s intense touring and recording schedule left him feeling that he couldn’t give the attention required for raising another child. “With his scheduling and his touring, he just felt he wasn’t around enough to give a lot of attention to having another child,” Priscilla shared.

Elvis’ Death Still Weighs Heavily

In a separate interview with British journalist Piers Morgan for TalkTV, Priscilla admitted that Elvis’ sudden death at the age of 42 continues to profoundly affect her. She recalled the moment she received the heart-wrenching phone call from Elvis’ road manager, Joe Esposito, delivering the devastating news.

“I can still hear Joe Esposito’s words, ‘Cilla, Elvis is dead,’” Priscilla recounted emotionally. “I just couldn’t imagine him ever, especially at his age and all, still so young and wanting to do so much and had so much planned, and not having him, not talking to him, not having him be the father of our child.”

Her thoughts immediately turned to their daughter, Lisa Marie, who was just 9 years old at the time. “My big fear was Lisa, and how do I tell her,” she said, recalling the overwhelming grief of the moment.

What Drew Priscilla to Elvis

Priscilla also shared more intimate details about what drew her to Elvis when they first met at a party in West Germany in 1959. She was just 14 years old at the time, and Elvis was 24. “He would walk into the room and it was like, ‘Whoa,’” she remembered, speaking of his undeniable charisma and presence. “He didn’t realize what he had as far as his appearance or what he felt or his charisma.”

Despite being one of the most famous people in the world, Elvis never lost his sense of humor, often joking about his good looks. “There were a few times when he came around, and he said, ‘Damn, I’m good looking,’ kiddingly, when he would be in his bathroom getting ready to go somewhere,” Priscilla said, laughing.

Elvis’ Generous Spirit

One of the things Priscilla emphasized during the event was Elvis’ remarkable generosity. She recalled a memorable instance in Memphis when Elvis spontaneously bought a woman a brand new blue Cadillac after seeing her admire the car at a dealership. “That’s him, that’s what he would do,” Priscilla said. “Anyone in trouble, he would give them money. Anyone who had a problem, with anything really, and they couldn’t afford it, even with some of the guys who needed medical care, he would pay for it.”

For Priscilla, these acts of kindness and Elvis’ caring nature were a testament to his character, and one of the many reasons why no one could ever take his place in her heart.

As she continues to reflect on her time with Elvis, it’s clear that her love and admiration for him endure—decades after his untimely death, Priscilla’s loyalty remains unwavering, proving that some bonds truly last forever.
